  • Planting of mangrove propagules along the coastline of Dardarat to protect the residents from salt sprays, wind-blown sands and strong winds especially during typhoons.
  • Replication of the project to other communities.

Project Impact
  • Increase of the coastal area`s vegetation cover
  • Increase of awareness in terms of environmental conservation and protection among the local residents. This is manifested on the passed ordinances to prohibit cutting of mangroves. Violators will be penalized for any misconduct.
  • It serves as laboratory to the visiting elementary, high school and university students, which give them the opportunity to observe at close range the biodiversity of the mangrove vegetation.
  • Recognized by the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur, Barangay Dardarat was a recipient of the “Hall of Fame Award” which is attributed to the existence of the mangrove project. The community also received the “Best in Coastal Resource Management” award for its high production of aqua culture for three consecutive years.
