Dec 7, 2017

The 7th Osaka Marathon was held on November 26, 2017 with about 32,000 runners. The 42 km-full marathon was won by Mr. Kaleab Ghilagabr of Eritrea for the male category with a record of 2:12:03 hours, while Ms. Yumiko Kinoshita of Japan won for the women category with a record of 2:34:38 hours.

The Osaka Marathon is one of the largest charity sporting events in Japan supporting 14 charitable organizations, including OISCA. For 3 consecutive years, OISCA has been mobilizing charity runners who need to raise a minimum amount of 70,000 yen to take part in the race.

This year, a total of 58 individuals (50 Japanese, 6 Australians and one each from China and Taiwan) ran the charity race to help in the fund-raising activities to support the 10-year Coastal Forest Restoration Project of OISCA in the 2011 tsunami affected area in Natori City, Miyagi Prefecture.

Among the 600 charity runners of the 14 charitable organizations, Mr. Yoshiaki Amano, OISCA charity runner won the Best Charity Runner Award for raising a total amount of 380,000 yen. Last year, OISCA raised the amount of 8,500,000 yen and is expected to exceed this year.

Aside from fielding the charity runners, OISCA set up an exhibition booth in OSAKA Marathon EXPO held for three days from November 24 at INTEX Osaka. At the booth, photo panels on the Coastal Forest Restoration Project were displayed and related information materials were distributed to a great number of visitors.
